Water rafting in Manali is one of the most exciting adventure activities for people who enjoy rivers, teamwork and a rush of adrenaline. A rafting trip usually lasts three to four hours, including a safety briefing and the drive to the start point. Guides give you a helmet and life jacket, and they teach simple paddling commands. Then the raft moves through rapids, and everyone paddles together. Also, calm stretches let you relax and enjoy the scenery.
The difficulty depends on the water level and the season. In spring and early summer, snowmelt makes the river faster and more exciting. During monsoon, the river can be too strong, so operators may stop rafting for safety. Therefore, always check the current conditions before you book.
Wear quick-dry clothes and sports sandals or shoes that stay on your feet. Also carry a spare set of clothes, a towel and sunscreen. Because the water is cold, avoid cotton layers. Leave phones, wallets and jewellery in the car, or use a waterproof pouch.
