About Prashar Lake

Prashar Lake is a scenic high-altitude lake in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, at around 2,730 metres. It lies about 40 km north of Mandi town. A green meadow and deodar forests surround the lake, and the Dhauladhar and Pir Panjal ranges rise behind it.

The lake is famous for its floating island, which slowly drifts across the water. On the bank stands the three-storey, pagoda-style Prashar Rishi Temple. Pilgrims, trekkers and photographers visit throughout the year.

The temple is worth a slow visit. Its carved wood and stone show old hill architecture, and the calm lake beside it adds to the atmosphere. Early morning is the quietest time, and the light is best for photos. Also carry water and snacks, because shops near the lake are few.

Most people drive from Mandi to Baggi village first. Then they walk a well-marked trail of nearly 7 km to the lake. In some seasons the road goes further up, so the walk becomes shorter. The trek is easy to moderate, so beginners can manage it.

Camping near the lake is a favourite plan. Nights are cold, but the sky is full of stars. Sunrise and sunset paint the water in warm colours. A forest rest house and local camps offer basic stays, so carry a warm sleeping bag.

March to June and September to November are the best months. Winter brings heavy snow and a magical white landscape, but access can be difficult. However, the monsoon makes the trail slippery. Please carry back your waste and respect the temple.

Prashar Lake works well as a weekend trip. Explore more places in Mandi or read official travel details on Himachal Tourism. Send us an enquiry with your dates, and BeMyTraveler will help you plan hotels, cars and tours for Prashar Lake.
