About Renuka Lake

Renuka Lake is the largest natural lake in Himachal Pradesh. It lies in Sirmaur district at around 645 metres, about 40 km from Nahan. Green hills surround the calm water, while a walking path of roughly 3 km runs around the lake.

The lake takes its name from Goddess Renuka, the mother of Lord Parshuram. According to local belief, its shape resembles a sleeping woman. Visitors can also explore Renuka Ji Temple and nearby Parshuram Tal. Therefore, the area attracts pilgrims and tourists throughout the year.

Every November, the Renuka Fair brings music, processions, stalls and large numbers of devotees to the area. The celebrations take place around Kartik Shukla Ekadashi. However, visit on a weekday outside the fair season if you prefer a quieter experience.

Families can also explore the wildlife area near Renuka Lake. In addition, visitors can enjoy paddle boating and admire the reflections of the surrounding hills. These activities make the destination suitable for families, couples and nature lovers.

Chandigarh lies about 120 km away, making Renuka a convenient option for a weekend trip. Small restaurants near the area serve simple meals. Travellers can also find hotels and guest houses around Renuka Ji and Nahan.

October to March offers pleasant weather for a visit. Carry light woollens during winter and wear comfortable shoes for walking. Moreover, respect the religious importance of the area and keep the surroundings clean.

You can combine your visit with Nahan and Paonta Sahib for a longer Sirmaur itinerary. Take enough time to enjoy the peaceful surroundings instead of rushing through the area. Also, check weather and road conditions before starting your journey.
