About Naina Devi Temple
Naina Devi Temple is one of the most important Shakti Peeths in India. It stands on a hilltop in Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh, at around 1,200 metres. From here, visitors can enjoy beautiful views of Gobind Sagar Lake and the surrounding hills.
According to belief, the eyes of Goddess Sati fell at this sacred place. That is why devotees worship her here as Naina Devi, the goddess of the eyes. Lakhs of devotees from Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Delhi visit the temple every year.
Chaitra Navratri, Ashwin Navratri and the Shravan Ashtami fair attract large crowds. During these festivals, pilgrims fill the roads and local stalls become busy. Local communities also organise langars along the route. Therefore, plan a weekday visit outside the fair season if you prefer a quieter darshan.
Travellers can easily reach the temple area by road. You can drive to the base and then take the ropeway or follow the walking path. Moreover, the route offers beautiful views of the hills and lake. The market near the entrance also sells prasad, puja items and souvenirs.
October to March offers pleasant weather for a visit. During summer, carry enough drinking water. Also, dress modestly and follow the temple rules. Festival days often bring long queues, so keep some extra time in your travel plan.
Take your time while exploring the temple and its surroundings. Also, check the weather and road conditions before you leave. Keep the area clean and carry your waste back with you. During peak season, book your stay and transportation in advance for a smoother journey. Finally, respect local customs and ask people before taking their photographs.
