Prashar Lake Weekend Trek

Prashar Lake is one of the most rewarding short treks in Himachal Pradesh — a compact 2-day, 1-night weekend trip that packs a real Himalayan camping experience into a single overnight, making it ideal for travellers who don’t have a full week to spare but still want to get off the road and onto a trail.

The trek begins from the base point near Mandi and climbs gradually through pine and deodar forest, gaining height steadily rather than steeply, which is what makes it accessible to reasonably fit beginners as well as more experienced trekkers. After a few hours of walking, the trail opens out at Prashar Lake itself, a small, near-circular lake sitting at around 2,730 metres, with a three-storey pagoda-style temple dedicated to the sage Prashar Rishi on its banks. A small patch of vegetation is said to float on the surface of the lake.

Camping is set up near the lake for the night, with meals and a bonfire included, giving you a proper taste of high-altitude camping under clear mountain skies, often with a wide view of stars away from city light. From the campsite and the surrounding ridgeline, the panorama takes in both the Dhauladhar range to the north and the Pir Panjal range to the south — a rare vantage point where both are visible together.

The package includes camping, all meals during the trek, an experienced trek guide and the evening bonfire. Transport to the base point and any personal trekking gear you need are not included and should be arranged in advance. Recommended for travellers aged 12 and above, with batches of up to 15 trekkers, this is a solid choice for a first Himalayan trek or a quick weekend escape.
