About Bharmour Chaurasi Temples
Bharmour Chaurasi Temples form an ancient temple complex in Bharmour, also called Brahmaur, in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. The town lies at around 2,100 metres, about 65 km from Chamba. A green meadow and mountains surround the temples, and it is one of the most important pilgrimage centres in the region.
The name Chaurasi means eighty-four, and the complex is believed to have this many small shrines. However, fewer can be seen today. The Manimahesh temple and the Lakshna Devi temple are among the most admired, with old stone architecture and fine wooden carvings.
Bharmour is also the home of the Gaddi people, a shepherd community known for its colourful dress and folk songs. Visitors can learn about their customs, taste local food and enjoy village walks. So the trip feels cultural as well as spiritual.
The town is the starting point for the Manimahesh yatra, held in August and September. The trek begins at Hadsar, about 13 km from Bharmour. Even if you do not trek, the pilgrimage season adds a lively atmosphere.
May to October is the best time to visit, because winters bring heavy snow and road closures. Carry warm clothes and dress modestly at the temples. Combine Bharmour with Chamba town, Khajjiar and Manimahesh Lake.
If you travel with children or elders, plan short breaks and keep the schedule relaxed. However, avoid rushing, because the best moments here come from slowing down and looking around. Check the weather and road conditions before you leave, so your plan stays flexible. Keep the surroundings clean, and carry your waste back with you.
