About Sangla Valley
Sangla Valley is one of the most beautiful valleys of Kinnaur district in Himachal Pradesh. It runs along the Baspa river at around 2,680 metres. Snow-capped peaks, dense forests and apple orchards surround it, and traditional Kinnauri village life keeps visitors coming back.
The Baspa flows with clear, cold water, and its wide banks are perfect for walks and photography. The main town, Sangla, has a small market and comfortable stays. Nearby villages such as Batseri and Rakcham show the local culture and wooden architecture.
Kamru Fort, a historic fort with a temple inside, is one of the most popular landmarks. The Bering Nag temple is another important spiritual site. Also, on a clear day, the view of the Kinner Kailash range is unforgettable.
Sangla is about 230 km from Shimla, and the drive passes Narkanda, Rampur and Karcham. Most guests stay in homestays and small guest houses. The valley is also the base for Chitkul, so many people plan a full-day trip there.
April to June and September to November are the best months. Carry warm clothes, because evenings are cold. However, check road conditions in winter and during the monsoon.
If you travel with children or elders, plan short breaks and keep the schedule relaxed. However, avoid rushing, because the best moments here come from slowing down and looking around. Check the weather and road conditions before you leave, so your plan stays flexible. Keep the surroundings clean, and carry your waste back with you. For a smoother trip, book your stay and transport in advance during peak season. Also respect local customs, and ask before you take photos of people.
