About Sujanpur Tira
Sujanpur Tira is a historic town in Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh. It stands on the banks of the Beas River at around 550 metres, about 22 km from Hamirpur. The town was once the capital of the Katoch rulers under Maharaja Sansar Chand.
It is known for one of the largest open grounds in the hills. As a result, the town feels spacious and calm. The old fort, called Tira, stands on a hill above the town and offers views of the Beas valley.
Two temples add to the charm. The Narbadeshwar and Gaurishankar temples show stone carvings and wall paintings in the Kangra style. A short walk connects them to the fort and the ground.
Every year around Holi, the Sujanpur Holi Fair fills the town with folk music, dance, sports and handicraft stalls. Book your stay early, because the town gets crowded. It is the best time to see the lively side of Hamirpur.
October to March is the best season to visit. Carry water and wear comfortable shoes, because the fort walk is uphill. Also combine the trip with Nadaun and Deotsidh for a complete Hamirpur plan.
If you travel with children or elders, plan short breaks and keep the schedule relaxed. However, avoid rushing, because the best moments here come from slowing down and looking around. Check the weather and road conditions before you leave, so your plan stays flexible. Keep the surroundings clean, and carry your waste back with you. For a smoother trip, book your stay and transport in advance during peak season. Also respect local customs, and ask before you take photos of people.
