About Langza
Langza is a beautiful high-altitude village in Spiti Valley of Himachal Pradesh, at around 4,400 metres. It lies about 16 km from Kaza. Open grasslands, barley fields and the snow-capped Chau Chau Kang Nilda peak surround it, so the views are huge.
The most eye-catching sight is the large golden Buddha statue at the edge of the village. It looks out over the valley, and an old temple stands behind it. Because the statue stands against the mountains, it is one of the most photographed views in Spiti.
Langza is called the fossil village because marine fossils from ancient seas lie in the surrounding rocks. Locals often show small fossils to visitors. So holding a piece of history in your hand is a special experience. Please follow local rules and avoid damaging the environment.
Nearby villages such as Komic and Hikkim are easy to visit on the same trip. Also, Hikkim is famous for its post office, one of the highest in the world. Homestays in Langza offer warm meals and beds, and the night sky is full of stars.
May to October is the best time to visit. However, winters are extremely cold and roads can close. Carry warm clothes and take care of the altitude.
However, avoid rushing, because the best moments here come from slowing down and looking around. Check the weather and road conditions before you leave, so your plan stays flexible. Keep the surroundings clean, and carry your waste back with you. For a smoother trip, book your stay and transport in advance during peak season. Also respect local customs, and ask before you take photos of people.
